DEEP RIVER – On April 3 at 10 a.m. the State Police at Troop F and the Deep River Resident State Trooper's Office reported that two youthful offenders were arrested for allegedly stealing 11 laptop computers from the Valley Regional High School on Kelsey Hill Road. The burglary took place on January 20. The names of the youths, both males between the ages of 16 and 17, are not available to the public due to a new state law that went into effect on October 1, 2005. Both boys were charged with burglary in the third degree, larceny in the first degree, conspiracy to commit burglary, and conspiracy to commit larceny. Each was processed and released on a $500 non-surety bond and is scheduled to appear in Middletown Juvenile Court on April 20. According the written report of arresting Trooper Olsen, the school was entered after hours through an exterior door that was left propped open, and 11 laptop computers were taken. All the computers have been recovered and are being held by police as court evidence. The investigation continues, and police are expecting warrants to be issued for the arrest of two other individuals believed to be involved in the burglary. When asked for additional information regarding the burglary via voice mail, officials at the school did not return calls. |
