OLD SAYBROOK - On Wed., June 7, a man brandishing a gun robbed the Cloud Nine Catering and Deli Café located at 256 Boston Post Road during the lunch hour rush. Police believe the deli robbery may be related to an armed robbery that occurred two hours later at the Groton Music Center in Groton. Just before 1 p.m. the suspect entered the cafe, pointed a pistol at the counter clerk and demanded money, stated Lieutenant Michael Spera, Public Information Officer at the Old Saybrook Police Department. According to Lieutenant Spera, the suspect, who is described at a white male, heavy-set, in his 50s, standing approximately 5 foot 10 inches tall, and sporting a long gray beard, made off with an undetermined amount of cash. The suspect fled the scene in a full-sized gray pickup truck that had a ladder rack stalled over the pickup bed. Later, at around 3 p.m., a man closely fitting the café robber's description made off with a guitar. According to Groton police, the man entered the Groton Music Center store, located at 441 Long Hill Road in the Lighthouse Square shopping plaza, picked up a guitar, and began walking to the exit door. When confronted by store personnel the man pulled a gun, according to police. The vehicle used by the music store robber was described as being a dark-colored pickup with a ladder rack. When contacted by telephone, a man at the music store abruptly stated, "I don't have the time," when asked to provide a comment or details about the robbery to the Harbor News. The Groton Music Store has been in business since 1975, and sells and rents a wide-range of name-brand musical instruments. Police asked that anyone with information about the deli robbery to please call the Old Saybrook Police Department at 860-395-3142. |
